Rising high above the town of Fort William, the forbidding slopes of Ben Nevis have presented an irresistible challenge to generations of climbers and hikers from the UK, and around the world. Summiting Britain's highest mountain is an achievement equalled only by the endeavour required to undertake it! Most people choose to climb 'the Ben' by the Pony Track, established in 1883 to service a (now ruined) weather observatory at the summit. For those wishing to get off the beaten track, however, there is little to parallel an ascent via the CMD arete. This airy traverse presents a magnificent view of the imposing North Face, and a wonderful sense of exposure. A good head for heights is a must!

A typical day on the Ben will generally last for 6-8 hours, so a good level of fitness is a pre-requisite. Whether you choose to ascend via the Pony Track, or the more adventurous CMD arete, your local guide will ensure your safety whilst keeping you entertained with tales of the fascinating history of the area, and pointing out the abundance of flora and fauna. Keep an eye out for deer, eagles, mountain hare, and perhaps even a rare glimpse of the elusive Highland haggis!

Peak and Creek run daily group trips up Ben Nevis from April to October. We limit our groups to a maximum of six people, to provide a more intimate, authentic experience. Group rates start from as little as £60 per person, or you can hire a guide exclusively for your day for £150.   Known as 'The Outdoor Capital of the UK', Lochaber encompasses the dramatic peaks of Glencoe in the South, the remote wilderness of the Knoydart peninsula, and the impressive bulk of Ben Nevis and the Mamores. Fort William lies at the heart of this giant adventure playground, facilitating easy access to some of the most remote and breathtaking scenery in the British Isles. Vast mountains tower above deep fjords, whilst waterfalls cascade from dizzying heights to cut deep gorges through the lush green landscape. Turquoise seas lap white sand beaches in deserted bays, and remnants of the ancient Caledonian forest stand proudly as they have done for centuries. Exploring the area by foot, one can easily forget the rest of the world exists. It isn't uncommon to spend entire days in these hills without seeing another human being. Eagles soar the thermals above, deer roam the hillsides below and, off the coast, dolphins and whales plumb the silent depths.

From challenging and exposed scrambles along vertiginous ridgelines, and big hikes through remote glens, to easier walks in stunning scenery, Peak and Creek will tailor the perfect adventure to suit you. Even if you are just looking to fill an afternoon with a gentle stroll, please get in touch today.
