there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.

Situated on the dramatic West coast of Scotland, where huge mountains rise imposingly from the sea, Fort William is ideally placed to catch the prevailing weather fronts rolling in from the Atlantic. As the warm, wet, ocean air meets the mountains, it is forced upwards. As it rises, it cools and condenses, releasing moisture in the form of rain. One of the wettest places in the British Isles, this perfect combination of topography and meteorology results in a veritable nirvana for whitewater kayakers.

Steep creeks hurtle down remote mountainsides, littered with bedrock slides and drops into deep plunge pools, gathering volume as they meet in glens, forming bigger rapids in deep gorges, until they combine to form larger, slower moving rivers meandering towards the sea. Thanks to centuries of human habitation, many of the classics in this area have got good road access, facilitating easy shuttles. For those prepared to shoulder their boat, and do some hiking, however, a wealth of hidden gems are available.

Peak and Creek offer guiding for all levels of whitewater kayaker. From scenic grade 2 float trips, to fun grade 3 runs, to challenging grade 4/5. The biggest water tends to be in the Spring and early Summer, but we have rivers that run all year round, even during dry spells. During the Summer, we also have access to guaranteed whitewater, thanks to regular releases from hydro dams. Contact us today to plan your perfect trip.
